Bicycle Friendly Oak Cliff & Go Oak Cliff put together another beautiful event. This was my first year to attend Bastille on Bishop, even though I missed the mussels, I was able to enjoy Matt Tolentino jamming on his accordion and the taste of french fries and sausages.

So I hit up the benefit tonight supporting Maria, the woman who was hit by another cyclist, and let me tell you it was ridiculously fun. Tons of stuff to enjoy from Gold Sprints to track stand competitions, discounted beer, and did I mention meeting new cyclists. I got to sit down with Maria and talk to her about the night the accident occurred, her hospitalization and her recovery. She seemed quite moved by the support and concern by us Dallas Cyclists. Mad respect goes out to everyone that put this together, from the artists who donated work, The Quarter Bar for being a great host, and the folks behind the scenes that planned out the event and executed it with perfection.

Maria was struck by another cyclist on the Santa Fe Trail during a Tits Tuesday ride. She suffered a fractured jaw and elbow and had to get surgery for an infection near her eye. HBCB along with Tits Tuesday, Quarter Bar and local supporters want to help her with her enormous hospital bills.

Their goal: $5000.

Nothing beats climbing hills, and best hill that’s close to me is none other than the hill on Loving Ave. At any given time, if you ride by this street you will see at least one masochistic cyclist grinding their teeth up this hill. It’s deceiving, too, because when you are on top of the hill you immediately hit a second, baby hill at Gaston Parkway and the party continues.

I went out on an adventure at White Rock Lake this evening and who do I run into but Jacob ! I met Jacob when I bought my Bianchi Pista Concept from him, thanks to Transit Bicycles Company, who connected me with him. It was awesome riding with you, even for a little bit. I am in Houston for the weekend, so I was able to attend Houston’s Critical Mass ride yesterday.  I talked to the shop guy and girl at Houston Fixed Gear about the ride and they were really friendly and told me to expect a crowd of around 400.  All varieties of cyclists turned out for this ride.  The ride was massive, the route was interesting, and the cyclist-motorist interactions were sometimes chaotic.  Someone was arrested, another got three tickets, one person was hit by a car, and some angry drivers let the riders corking the roads know how they felt about the traffic delays.

This ride was a great way to see various neighborhoods in Houston and to share a common interest in cycling with so may different types of people.
