I currently have continental tires on my bike, the $20 ones. I'm always getting tons of skid patches and want to have more life to the tire even if I have to spend more money on it, any suggestions to what kind of tire I should get?

Soma Everwear. Steep price. 100% worth it. I only run one in the rear, and I'd say you can get about 6months out of them doing A LOT of skids. The regular Everwears have pretty shoddy sidewalls, so if you do a lot of FGFS then you can blow them out in 2-3months. It took me six months to wear out my first Everwear, even doing a lot of trick skidding. Soma just released the Super Everwear, though. I saw the add in the last Urban Velo and they're up on the Soma site now. Stronger sidewalls. Same price. I'll probably upgrade in another six months when I need a new rear tire.

For the front, get an Armadillo. Even if you get into doing a lot of sliders and shit those things last forever on the front. Though, I never have $50 to drop on a front tire, so I just get $25 Bontrager Kevlars that last about 3 months.

That's Vittoria Randonneur, for those of you that aren't as "hip" and "with-it" as Mr. Poopoopeepee

I'm always ok with the $20 contis, and i only have 3 skid patches at the moment, but im an "ambidextrous skidder" so that helps.  i can get 3-4 months out of a rear. i always run a gatorskin on the front since ive somehow never got a flat in front since i started using that tire. maybe its just a superstitious thing now.

i've found that the cheap tires in general (but not all) provide better grip when trying to stop if you skid on it.  even in rain, the cheap ultrasports caught the pavement.  colored tires in general (because they dont have the carbon black in them) will not grip surfaces as well in wet conditions.
